Man strangled and bit woman

A THUG who bit, strangled and kicked a woman has been jailed for 20 weeks.

Daniel Calvert, aged 29, of Bury Road, Breightmet, assaulted the woman in Bury on November 17 and again on December 19, last year.

At the time of the offences, Calvert was subject to an 18-month conditional discharge imposed by Bolton magistrates on September 8, 2014.

Calvert had been given that sentence for assaulting the same woman and damaging her door on August 31, 2014.

At a Bury Magistrates Court hearing on Wednesday, Calvert admitted two counts of assault and was jailed.

Magistrates said the offences were serious because of Calvert's "record of violence and because of the nature and extent of the assaults, which included biting, strangulation and kicking."
