Vacuum cleaner thief comes clean

A VACUUM thief has been made subject of a community order.

David Kay, aged 39, stole a Hoover Hurricane worth £120 from Sainsbury's in Cricketers Way, Westhoughton, on Monday.

He admitted the theft the next day at Bolton Magistrates' Court.

Kay, of Gooch Street, Horwich, was given a six-month community order with a rehabilitation activity requirement and must pay a victim surcharge of £60.

OAP attacker sentenced

MAGISTRATES sentenced a man who admitted assaulting two people to a conditional discharge for six months.

Iqbal Badat, aged 65, of Constance Road, Deane, also admitted causing £400 worth of damage to a pair of glasses during the incident.

He was also ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £15, costs of £85 and compensation of £200.

Attacker spared jail after assaulting pregnant woman

MAGISTRATES have handed a man a suspended prison sentence after he admitted assaulting a pregnant woman.

Qais Sajjad, aged 23, of Wyresdale Road, Bolton, pleaded guilty to attacking the woman and damaging her window on February 17.

The court heard that Sajjad was drunk and it was the second time he had assaulted the same woman.

He was sentenced to 20 weeks in prison, suspended for 12 months and was ordered to undertake100 hours of unpaid work.

He must also take part in 22 days of rehabilitation activity and pay £50 compensation plus £165 in costs and charges.

Mum’s failure over pupil’s attendance

A MOTHER who failed to ensure her teenage son regularly attended school has been sentenced.

The woman's 15-year-old son did not have good enough attendance at Mount St Joseph School in Greenland Road, Farnworth, and Bolton Council chose to prosecute.

One charge of being a parent of child of compulsory school age who failed to attend regularly at school - an offence under the Education Act 1996 - was proved in her absence on February 29 at Bolton Magistrates' Court.

She was given a conditional discharge for 12 months back at the same court on Tuesday and pay a victim surcharge of £15.

Unpaid work after assault

A MAN has been ordered to do 200 hours of unpaid work for attacking a woman.

Asif Hayat, aged 39, of Plodder Lane, Farnworth, was charged with assaulting the woman in Radcliffe on September 1 last year.

He denied the offence to Bury magistrates on September 21 and was found guilty on February 16 after a trial.

At a sentencing hearing at the same court on March 8, Hayat was also ordered to stay away from the woman for at least a year, to pay her £100 compensation and to pay £680 court costs.

Man admits racial incident

A TONGE Moor man has been sentenced to unpaid work after threatening two people in a racially motivated incident.

Lewis Sheridan, aged 29, of Thicketford Road, admitted two counts of using threatening, abusive or insulting words or behaviour, which were racially aggravated, as well as another count of threatening, abusive or insulting words or behaviour and resisting a police officer in their duty.

He must complete 80 hours of unpaid work within the next 12 months, and was ordered to pay compensation of £50, a victim surcharge of £60 and costs of £85 by Bolton magistrates.

Drink-driver, 33, sentenced

A MOTORIST has been fined and disqualified for being more than three times the drink-drive limit.

John Gordon was caught behind the wheel of a 2012-reg Seat Ibiza in Shepherds Cross Street, Bolton, round the corner from his home in Cundey Street, on February 20.

Police gave him a breath test that gave a reading of 114mg of alcohol in 100ml of breath. The legal maximum is 35mg.

Gordon, aged 33, admitted drink driving at Bolton Magistrates' Court on Tuesday. 

The bench fined him £110 and imposed a victim surcharge of £20 and order him to pay court costs of £85.

He was disqualified from driving for two years.
