Banned driver jailed

A MOTORIST who repeatedly drove whilst banned from the roads has been jailed by Bolton magistrates.
The court heard how Zafran Qayum was caught driving a Renault Megane on Lever Edge Lane, Bolton on February 20.
It was the fourth time Qayume had committed the offence of disqualified driving and magistrates were told he has a blatant disregard for court orders.
He admitted the offence and he was sentenced to 18 weeks in jail. He was also banned from holding a driving licence for three years and was ordered to pay an £80 victim surcharge.

Rail passenger fined over behaviour

A RAIL passenger has been fined £160 by Bolton magistrates after they found him guilty of offensive behaviour and using offensive language on the railway.
Robert Boardman, aged 25, of Blackburn Road, Bolton, committed the offences on December 4 and 12 last year and he was convicted in his absence after failing to turn up to court.
Boardman was also ordered to pay £105 in court costs and charges.

Sweets thief ordered to pay compensation

MAGISTRATES have sentenced a man to a conditional discharge for 12 months after he admitted stealing confectionary, worth £12, from a Farnworth store.
Gary Mayoh, aged 36, of Fearnhead Close, Farnworth, committed the offence on January 24.
Mayoh was also ordered to pay £12 compensation plus £100 in costs and charges.

Van driver sentenced to do unpaid work

A DRINK drive van driver has been sentenced to do unpaid work by Bolton magistrates.
The court heard how Stephen Hunt, aged 50, of Downham Avenue, Bolton, was caught driving a Ford Transit van on Firwood Grove, Tonge Moor, on March 25 having drunk almost double the legal level of alcohol.
He was also driving without a licence or insurance and had a quantity of cocaine on him.
Hunt pleaded guilty to committing the offences, was banned from holding a driving licence for three years and was sentenced to do 75 hours unpaid work.
He was also ordered to pay £145 in costs and charges.

Drink drive man gets ban

A DRINK driver has been fined £400 by Bolton magistrates.
Sundip Punam, aged 40, of Tenby Avenue, Heaton, had drunk almost twice the legal level of alcohol when he was stopped behind the wheel of a Seat Leon on Tudor Avenue on March 26.
He admitted committing the offence and, in addition to the fine, he was banned from holding a driving licence for 18 months.
Punam was also ordered to pay £125 in costs and charges.

Fine for man with heroin and cocaine

MAGISTRATES have fined a man £300 after he admitted possessing heroin and cocaine on December 5 last year.
Alan Hughes, aged 36, of Crompton Way, Bolton, was also told he must pay £115 in costs and charges.

Alcohol thief in court

A THIEF who stole two bottles of alcohol from a Bolton shop has been sentenced to a conditional discharge for 12 months.
At Bolton Magistrates' Court Kevin Sutherland, aged 35, of Crystal Road, Blackpool, admitted taking the bottles of Jack Daniels, worth £50, from Marks and Spencer on November 14.
He was ordered to pay the shop £50 compensation and must also pay £100 in costs and charges.

Meat thief sentenced

A MEAT thief who stole from a Bolton store has been sentenced to a community order by magistrates.
Carl Hayes, aged 45, of Heywood Gardens, Bolton, pleaded guilty to taking the meat, worth £71.31, from Aldi on March 22.
Hayes must participate in 10 days of rehabilitation activities and he was ordered to pay £145 in costs and charges.

Uninsured driver banned from the roads

AN UNINSURED driver has been banned from holding a licence for six months.
At Bolton Magistrates’ Court Jordan Rawat, aged 23, of Church Road, Bolton, pleaded guilty to careless driving on Moss Bank Way, Bolton, in a Fiat Punto and having no licence or insurance on March 25.
He was fined £140 and was ordered to pay £105 in costs and charges.

Violent man spared jail following assault

A MAN has been spared jail after being found guilty of assaulting a woman by magistrates.
Michael Lucas, aged 26, of Abbot Croft, Westhoughton, had denied beating the woman on July 19 last year, but was convicted following a trial.
The court heard Lucas has a poor record for violence.
He was sentenced to 20 weeks in prison, suspended for two years.
He was also ordered to participate in 10 sessions of a Control of Violence for Angry Impulsive Drinkers programme and 15 days of rehabilitation activities.
Lucas must also pay £680 in costs and charges.

Magistrates fine drunken woman

A WOMAN has been fined £100 by magistrates after pleading guilty to being drunk and disorderly in Bradshawgate, Bolton, on March 27.
Leanne Law, aged 26, of Sedgley Park Road, Prestwich, was already subjected to a conditional discharge for a similar offence at the time.
The court also ordered her to pay £105 in costs and charges.

Drink driver banned

MAGISTRATES have banned a motorist from the roads for 18 months after he was caught drink driving on Wigan Road, Bolton.
David Balmer, aged 57, of Chaucer Grove, Leigh, committed the offence on March 20.
He pleaded guilty and also admitted stealing diesel, worth £35, on October 28.
In addition to the driving ban he was also fined £170 and ordered to pay £105 in costs and charges.

Jacket thief spared jail

A THIEF who stole two jackets worth £300 from a Bolton store and repeatedly went shoplifting for alcohol has been handed a suspended prison sentence.
Terence Hargreaves, aged 44, of Worston Avenue, Johnson Fold, admitted taking the jackets on April 4 and bottles of spirits, worth £118.96 from four different shops between January 10 and 17.
He was sentenced to eight weeks in jail, suspended for 12 months and was ordered to pay the shops compensation.

Man fined for no insurance

MAGISTRATES have fined a man £370 after finding him guilty of having no insurance.
Yasin Dalal, aged 24, of Anson Street, Bolton, had denied driving a VW Golf on Derby Street, Bolton on August 1 last year without insurance but was found guilty following a trial.
In addition to the fine, he was ordered to pay £637 in costs and charges.
