POLICE in Bolton are warning residents to be wary of fraudulent BT service calls.
Officers posted on Facebook to highlight conmen and women pretending to be calling from BT in order to persuade victims to hand over confidential data about themselves that can be used to steal money.
The police message read: "We have received a number reports of scam calls pretending to be BT service calls.
"If you are cold called please don't give out any personal information, and give them a call back on a number you know to be genuine in order to verify the call is legitimate.
"This won't be an issue for genuine companies."
Anyone can report scam calls to Action Fraud on 0300 123 2040 or online at www.actionfraud.police.uk
