A NIGHTCLUBBER who repeatedly stamped and kicked a man on a dance floor nightclubber, could not remember the attack, a court has heard.

Oliver Bromley-Davenport was left with a footprint bruise on his forehead after being beaten up by a group of men at the Level nightclub.

At Bolton Crown Court 20-year-old Yunis Yussuf was given a suspended custodial sentence for the part he played in the assault on Mr Bromley-Davenport at the Nelson Square, Bolton, club on January 15.

Saul Brody, prosecuting, told how the attack started at around 4.20am, after the 20-year-old victim complained to a girl nightclubber that she had just hit him in the groin.

He was then grabbed around the neck by several men and thrown to the floor.

Mr Bromley-Davenport suffered head injuries, a broken nose, two black eyes and chips to his two front teeth.

Yussuf, of The Cube, Bradshawgate was arrested on March 2 and identified himself to police on CCTV footage, but claimed to not know the other men involved in the attack.

He pleaded guilty to causing actual bodily harm.

Mr Brody said that Yussuf told police he had woken up the day after the incident with a sore leg, but didn't remember how he came by it and was "horrified" when shown the CCTV footage.

In a victim impact statement read out in court, Mr Bromley-Davenport said since the attack he has suffered depression, panic attacks and high levels of anxiety.

He will also need two veneers on his two front teeth and has been left with a deformed nose and scarring.

Phillip Barnes, defending Yussuf, said: "This was a foul and inexcusable act of violence.

"I won't insult the victim's parents, who are in court today, by trying to excuse it.

"However he has shown genuine empathy and shock at what he has done and repeatedly said how horrified he was to police and has apologised on a number of occasions."

Sentencing Yussuf to 14 months in a young offenders' institution, suspended for two years, the Honorary Recorder of Bolton, Judge Timothy Clayson said: "You have never offended before which makes this all the more surprising.

"For inexplicable reasons on this night, instead of helping this man up, you joined in on an attack that was taking place."

Yussuf was ordered to pay £1,500 in compensation to the victim and must do 240 hours of unpaid work.

He will also be subject to an electronically tagged curfew from 8pm until 6am for three months.

Speaking after the sentencing Mr Bromley-Davenport's mother, Tracey, aged 51, said: "I think the judge has been fair, however my son probably won't think so.

"Five men got away with this, the sixth has taken the can for everyone.

"Lets hope this is a lesson to this man."
