A FRESH appeal has been launched for help to catch the murderers of Paul Massey a year after he was killed.

Known as Salford's 'Mr Big', the 55-year-old was fatally wounded after being shot five times outside his home in Manchester Road, Clifton at 7.30pm on Sunday July 26 2015.

Detectives investigating the murder believe it was part of an ongoing feud between organised crime groups in Salford.

A £50,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of those responsible for the death still stands.

Detective Chief Inspector Howard Millington, the senior investigating officer in the case, said: “We have made good progress, however we still need information to help our investigation.

"It has been an extremely difficult year for Paul’s friends and family and we are continuing to offer them support.

"Salford is a strong community and I am appealing to people to come forward if they have any information that could help us bring the offender to justice.

"I want to stress that if you come forward with what you know you will have our full support.

"Or if you don’t feel you can talk to police but you have information, you can speak to Crimestoppers anonymously."

Witnesses have described the shooter approaching Mr Massey from the direction of the Clifton Community Centre, directly across Manchester Road from the victim's house.

He fired a series of shots and then walked back towards the centre’s car park and was last seen walking in the direction of the alleyway that leads to St Anne’s Church.

The killer was white and slim and was wearing a hat - possibly fisherman style - a face covering, a green or khaki long-sleeved top and combat-style trousers tucked into black lace-up boots.

He was carrying a black sub-machine gun style weapon.

Two days before the killing, at 7pm on Friday 24 July, a man who was seen in Clifton Country Park sat in a white Renault Kangoo van.

He is described as white, in his late 30s to early 40s, about 5ft 10in and wearing a black hat, jacket, camouflage trousers and carrying a torch and a gun described as being the same style as an Uzi.

Detectives are urging the man to come forward.

So far 18 arrests have been made over the wider gang feud but no charges over the murder have been brought.

Anyone with information about the killing is asked to call police on 0161 856 9775, 101 or independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
