A REVELLER celebrating New Year's Eve in Level nightclub was reportedly stabbed multiple times in a violent attack.

The young man had welcomed in 2017 alongside hundreds of other guests at the Mawdsley Street, Bolton, venue's Glitterati-themed evening.

Bosses closed the third floor in order to allow paramedics to help the victim and police are investigating the attack.

Neither the circumstances of the assault nor the weapon used are yet known — although it was rumoured to be a craft knife.

Andrea Mcgowan Rigby said on Facebook: "My nephew was stood next to him when it happened.

"He just said he turned round and there was blood everywhere then the whole club was empty in seconds. He didn't know the victim. Hope the victim's OK."

In a statement, Level's management said: "We were made aware of a fight that had taken place at 1.10am in which a male had received cuts.

"He was treated in our first aid room by our medics and then sent on to hospital where, we have been informed, he is recovering well.

"The club was not evacuated and traded until normal closing time. We did, however, close the room in which the incident occurred as a matter of precaution.

"The incident was captured on CCTV and a copy of the footage passed to the police last night to aid their investigation into the matter.

"The police have also visited us this morning to commend the club on how we dealt with the incident.

"There is no obvious use of a knife in the CCTV footage and no weapon was found."

Yesterday's attack comes as a senior member of the Bolton Street Angels volunteers, who patrol the town centre at weekends helping people on a night out, warned about the increasing violence in the town centre.

In the space of a little over a week over Christmas there were three separate instances of so-called 'coward punches' where the victim is sucker-punched and knocked to the ground with a single blow.

The stabbing in Level is among the most serious incidents at the venue since it opened in November 2015.

A spokeswoman for North West Ambulance Service said: "We were called at 1.17am to Level nightclub. A man in his 20s had suffered multiple stab wounds.

"He was conscious and breathing but he had suffered serious bleeding. He was taken to Manchester Royal Infirmary."

People took to social media after hearing about the attack to share their disbelief and concern at the violence.

One user, @Chloloutay, said: "As if someone just been stabbed on the same floor we was on in Level and we all got evacuated. Grim, Bolton. I'm sick of it, me."

Another, djgemini83, said: "Another stabbing in Bolton tonight in Level. Don't know full story yet but it's a shame for that town."

In January, a 20-year-old man was beaten up by around seven men while enjoying a night out in Level and was left with head injuries, a broken nose, two black eyes and chips to his two front teeth.

One of the attackers, a 20-year-old man, was later given a suspended jail term after admitting causing actual bodily harm.

In May, a man barged into another reveller and spilled his drink and then became abusive when asked to replace it.

The 20-year-old victim attempted to calm the situation but was attacked, with the offender repeatedly punching him in the face before biting his ear. The victim was left with a broken nose and a torn ear, which required gluing back together.

In October police appealed for help in identifying men on CCTV images in connection with an incident in the nightclub in which a female clubber received injuries to her forehead when an object – believed to be a glass or a jug – was thrown across the room.
