Driver jailed for 18 weeks

MAGISTRATES have jailed a motorist for 18 weeks after he admitted drink-driving.
Jahangir Toorawa, aged 44, of Henley Grove, Bolton, was caught driving a Suzuki Alto in Rupert Street, Bolton, on July 30 having drunk almost twice the legal level of alcohol.
At Bolton Magistrates’ Court Toorawa also pleaded guilty to driving whilst banned and having no insurance.
The court heard that he has two previous drink-drive convictions on his record and a blatant disregard for driving disqualifications.
In addition to the jail sentence Toorawa was banned from applying for a driving licence for three years.

Assault fine

A FINE of £200 has been handed to Denisas Jokubauskas, aged 35, of Lightbounds Road, Bolton, by magistrates after he pleaded guilty to assaulting a woman on July 8.
He must also pay £15 in costs and charges.

Assault man sentenced

MAGISTRATES have ordered a man to do 60 hours unpaid work after he committed a number of offences.
Simon Walsh, aged 34, of Claypool Road, Horwich, appeared at Bolton Magistrates Court and admitted assaulting a woman on June 18 as well as producing cannabis on July 7 and causing damage, estimated at £700, to a police vehicle.
In addition to the unpaid work Walsh was ordered to participate in 15 days of rehabilitation activities, and pay £100 compensation plus a total of £170 towards prosecution costs and a victim surcharge.
The court also man a restraining order banning him from contacting the assault victim or enter Tredgold Street except to visit a garage.

Unpaid work order for teen

A TEENAGER has been sentenced to do 100 hours unpaid work after he admitted assaulting two people.
At Bolton Magistrates’ Court David Pearson, aged 19, of Southover, Westhoughton, also pleaded guilty to harassing a woman and damaging her mobile phone, worth £350, on February 18.
In addition to the unpaid work Pearson was ordered to participate in 30 days of rehabilitation activities and pay a total of £350 in compensation.

Window vandal before magistrates

A VANDAL who damaged a Bolton pub window has been sentenced to a conditional discharge for 12 months by Bolton magistrates.
Joseph McKeown, aged 25, of Forest Road, Southport, pleaded guilty to smashing the window of the Lord Raglan pub in Halliwell Road on May 10.
McKeown was also ordered to pay £300 in compensation plus £85 towards prosecution costs and a £20 victim surcharge.

Burglar given treatment order

A WOMAN who burgled a house in Haroldene Street, Bolton, stealing perfume and bank cards, has been ordered to have treatment for drug addiction for six months.
At Bolton Magistrates’ Court Debbie Billington, aged 28, of Tonge Moor Road, Bolton, pleaded guilty to carrying out the crime on March 8 and committing fraud by using stolen cards.
She was also fined £50 and must pay £179.50 compensation plus £170 towards prosecution costs and a victim surcharge.

Waste dump man fined £330

A MAN who dumped a carpet, mop and black bag containing household waste behind his home on March 17 has been fined by magistrates.
The case against Stephen Claxton, aged 35, of Ashworth Street, Farnworth, was proved in his absence after he did not appear before Bolton magistrates.
Claxon was fined £330 and ordered to pay a total of £233 in prosecution costs and charges.

Car owner fined by court

A CAR owner who allowed it to be used as a taxi without a licence has been fined £100 by Bolton magistrates.
Abbas Ghulam, aged 56, of Eskrick Street, Bolton, owns a Toyota Avensis and pleaded guilty to committing the offence when the vehicle was used to ply for hire on Bradshawgate, Bolton at 9pm on December 10.
In addition to the fine Ghulam was ordered to pay £410 in prosecution costs plus a £30 victim surcharge.
The prosecution was brought by Bolton Council under the Town Police Clauses Act 1847.
