A MAN who injured his victims with a sword has been jailed.

Reece Lonsdale, of Chedworth Crescent, Little Hulton, used the weapon to hit a woman and her male partner, causing a deep gash to each of their heads.

On November 2, the 24-year-old was in a car with co-defendants Robert Price, of Brereton Avenue, Cleethorpes, along with Alexander Barnet, of Ramsay Avenue, Farnworth.

Lonsdale got out the car and punched a female victim in the face before she got into the car and was driven to her home address in Moorside Avenue, Farnworth.

Armed with the sword, Lonsdale and Barnet went into the home address, where Lonsdale slashed the woman across the forehead, causing a gash, before attacking her male partner, who was asleep on the sofa in the living room.

The male victim was also struck with the sword ‘close to his eye’ before he was hit with a wooden chair by Barnet, causing the victim’s elbow to break.

The two then left the address before fleeing in the car driven by Price. They were arrested shortly afterwards.

The female victim has been left with a permanent vertical scar down the middle of her forehead.

During sentencing at Bolton Crown Court, Judge Timothy Stead said: “You were with two others and they are all jointly responsible for the offence but you are the prime offender having had the sword.

“You were driven by one of your co-defendants. You punched a female victim in the face. She got into the vehicle but it is not said that this was kidnap.

“She was taken to the address. You went into the address along with Mr Barnet.

“You used that sword to strike a blow to the front of the female victim that has left a permanent scar, a vertical gash, on her forehead.

“The male victim was also hit on the head by the sword not far from his eye. He suffered a gash wound that had to be repaired. He was also attacked by Mr Barnet with the chair and suffered another injury.

“The offence that concerns this court today is so extensive and serious that an immediate custodial sentence is appropriate.”

All three pleaded guilty to two counts of unlawful wounding.

Lonsdale was also sentenced at the same time for previous driving offences dating back to last year, including causing damage and dangerous driving.

He was also involved in a police pursuit on De Havilland Way in October last year where he reached speeds of up to 100mph.

He was sentenced to three and a half years in prison and was disqualified from driving for four and a half years.

Barnet, aged 29, and Price, aged 23, will be sentenced at a later date.
