SHOCKING footage shows the moment a drink-driver speeds through a red light before crashing into the back of a taxi at a busy town centre junction.

Police have released the video of the crash, which took place at the junction of Trinity Street and Bradshawgate, at the Wayne Walker shop, earlier this year.

A white car can be seen coming along Trinity Way at speed and going straight into the middle of the junction, through a red light.

Cars can be seen coming from the direction of Manchester Road into the junction through a green light as the vehicle goes straight into the traffic.

The white Citroen C2 then ploughs into the back of another car, both of which can be seen spinning in the middle of the junction before skidding out of camera shot.

The footage shows two pedestrians crossing the road shortly before the car speeds through the junction.

The crash took place shortly after 2am on Saturday, May 20 this year.

The video shows the front end of the white car immediately caving in on impact with the back end of the taxi.

The car that caused the crash was being driven by Samuel Olaitan, who has now been sentenced for his role in the collision.

He recently appeared at Bolton Crown Court to be sentenced after pleading guilty to a number of offences.

The 32-year-old admitted drink-driving, dangerous driving, driving without insurance and driving without a licence at a previous hearing.

When Olaitan, of Thicketford Road in Tonge Moor, was breathalysed by police, he was found to have 59 micrograms of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath and the legal limit is 35, meaning that he was almost twice over.

Fortunately, nobody in either of the vehicles was seriously injured in the crash.

Olaitan, was given a four-month prison sentence, suspended for two years and was also disqualified from driving for two years.

He was also ordered to pay costs and fines of £550 by the court.

If he wishes to reapply for a licence, Olaitan must take an extended driving test, to make sure that his driving is up to the standard required.
