CCTV pictures show a mindless vandal pushing a large bottle bin into a busy main road.

Staff at KOO bar in Market Street, Westhoughton, were alerted late on Monday night to the fact that the bin, that was waiting to be collected the following morning, had been pushed into the middle of the street.

Scott Rothwell, one of the owners said: "One of the residents heard a massive bang. She thought there had been a car crash. They went out into Market Street and they saw that the glass bin had been pushed over.

"There was glass everywhere and it stopped all the traffic."

CCTV shows the incident taking place at around 10.50pm and staff were called down at around 11.30pm.

Staff from the Italiano, The Wheatsheaf and Star 401 rushed out and started sweeping up the glass but the bin was initially too heavy to move out of the road.

Staff also chased the man off when they came out and found him there.

KOO shared the CCTV images on their Facebook page and 21,000 people have viewed them.

Mr Rothwell hopes that by spreading the images they can identify the man and he can go on a Pubwatch list to keep him out of local bars.

He also plans to take the images and the names he is given to police and a forthcoming licensing appointment.

He said: "I think it is mindless vandalism. It is pointless really. The only effect really was the time spent clearing it up.

"It was just a completely pointless exercise. I don't think there is any reason why he has done it."

Eventually, Mr Rothwell and the other two owners of KOO managed to get the bin out of the road and moved it out of the way down a nearby alley.

Despite the inconvenience caused by the incident, Mr Rothwell said it was good to see local businesses coming together to support each other.

He said: "The best bit is the local businesses helping each other out, because we have not been there that long. It was good to see the staff working together. It has been quite positive in that fact."

Mr Rothwell is asking anyone with information about the incident, or the man's identity to contact him via the bar's Facebook page.
