A TELEVISION documentary will continue to go behind the scene of the investigation into the murder of a Bolton grandfather.

The Detectives: Murder on the Streets, is following officers in Greater Manchester Police’s Major Investigations Team.

Last week’s episode began to look at the disappearance and murder of Darren McMinn.

It followed DCI Sarah Jones as she investigated the case.

Mr McMinn was killed by Candido Pereira who then dumped his body in a reservoir.

Mr McMinn went missing on April 11 last year and Pereira was found guilty after a trial and sentenced to life in prison.

The series started by looking at the death of a homeless man in Manchester before the second episode started to focus on the Bolton case.

Friends and family of Mr McMinn became concerned after he went missing and had not used his phones or tried to access his funds at the post office.

As he was a drug user, officers started to investigate whether he was looking for illicit substances.

The programme shows officers speaking to Mr McMinn’s family who are concerned about him.

Officers are then seen carrying out a search of Mr McMinn’s house as well as raiding properties where known associates lived.

Phone evidence eventually leads officers to Pereira, who is first interview as a witness and then as a suspect but denies killing him.

He states that he has been driving for drug gangs and if he starts naming people he could be murdered.

The programme will air again tonight on BBC2 at 9pm and will continue to follow the investigation as officers try and gather evidence to prosecute Pereira.

Last week’s episode ended with Pereira arrested but Mr McMinn’s body had not yet been found.

Mr McMinn is remembered by friends as a devoted family man and many paid tribute to him after it was confirmed he had died.

The start of the series is available to watch on BBC iPlayer.
