A BOLTON robber who was jailed for his part in a violent raid on cash delivery men has had his jail time increased after launching a hopeless appeal.

Westley John Seddon, 26, of Goldrill Avenue, was one of four men jailed last year over the robbery at a Shell garage in Fleetwood in 2015.

One brandished an axe as they forced cash-in-transit guards to hand over £50,000 which was destined for a cash machine.

Seddon admitted robbing the security guards and a motorist of their car in a bid to escape.

He was sentenced to 10 years’ imprisonment, with a five-year extended licence period, at Preston Crown Court in February last year.

But his time behind bars has now been increased by a month after senior judges in London rejected his hopeless appeal.

Seddon had claimed his sentence was ‘excessive’, but was told by judges his appeal was a ‘waste of precious time and resources’.

Giving judgment, Mr Justice Lewis, sitting with Lady Justice Hallett and Mr Justice Haddon-Cave, said Seddon had previous convictions for robbery and wounding.

“The sentence imposed is not manifestly excessive, given the nature of the offending and his previous convictions,” he told the Court of Appeal.

Seddon had been warned that his appeal stood no chance and yet had continued in his bid to take it to court.

Mr Justice Lewis ordered that a month already served will not count towards Seddon’s sentence.
