A MAN suffered a serious eye injury after being wounded with what police believe was either a large knife or a Samurai sword.

The victim, believed to be in his 30s, suffered multiple cuts and wounds during the incident in Langford Gardens, Great Lever.

Police were called to reports of fighting at the address at about 7.15pm on Wednesday night.

A 32-year-old woman was arrested on suspicion of Section 18 wounding and remains in custody for questioning.

And a 35-year-old male was also later arrested and remains in custody.

Officers were not able to recover a weapon from the scene but are now searching for either a Samurai sword or knife in connection with the incident.

Residents reported seeing the man seriously injured outside a flat. They said four police vehicles arrived ,while officers put a cordon up and made door-to-door enquiries.

One resident, who asked not be named, said: "We were quite scared. It was quite weird seeing all the police cars.

"I’ve never seen anything like it. It’s normally quite quiet around here."

DC Stuart Round of Bolton CID said: "We believe this to be an isolated incident and that there is not believed to be any risk to the wider public.
