AN investigation has been launched after a fight broke out on New Year's Eve.

Police arrested four car passengers after a vehicle crashed into several parked vehicles following the disturbance in Fearney Side, Little Lever.

The arrested men, aged 18, 20, 25 and 27, have since been released under investigation.

It follows an incident earlier that same night, where a man was almost knocked down by a car while walking home from the shops.

A spokeswoman for Greater Manchester Police said: "We were called at around 10pm.

"Two men had been to a shop and were walking on their return home when a car narrowly missed running one of them over.

"At the time, this car was in tandem with another car.

"Four men got out of both cars.

"An altercation started but they dispersed.

"Shortly after, when the two original men who had been walking returned to their house, two men forced their way into their property, armed with a broken bottle.

"They started another altercation but then left."

Police officers were called to the scene where they found the vehicle that had narrowly missed running over the pedestrian earlier in the evening.

Resident Greg Crompton said: "I looked out of my window and saw a police car block a car in.

"The car reversed then drove down the road and crashed into another car.

"They jumped out but the police caught them."

The driver of the car reversed away from police vehicles, crashing into several parked cars.

In efforts to prevent them escaping, the police car drove into the vehicle to pin it in place, but the driver made off on foot.

The spokeswoman from GMP added: "After that, four men who were passengers in that car have been arrested.

"But the identity of the driver is still unknown.

"Enquiries are ongoing to identify them."
