A MAN has been jailed four four years after he admitted biting his partner on the arm in a jealous rage.

Bolton Crown Court heard how Daniel Butterworth, who has a lengthy criminal record, had been in a relationship with his partner for several years, but it began to deteriorate after she gave birth to their son.

In November he assaulted her after he saw a photograph of her kissing someone on a holiday and then, in January, he attacked her twice more, assaulting her as they were in a car.

In the early hours of January 2 a witness saw him repeatedly punch her.

She was left with a bleeding nose, cut above her eye and a bitten and bruised left arm, as well a broken finger sustained when she tried to defend herself. "The bruising on the upper part of her arm is alarming and extensive," said the Honorary Recorder of Bolton, Judge Timothy Clayson.

Butterworth, a 21-year-old upholsterer, of Calder Road, Bolton, pleaded guilty to assault, causing actual bodily harm and grievous bodily harm.

He also admitted two counts of making threats to his partner and her mother. While on bail he phoned them threatening to burn his girlfriend's house down.

Alexander Langhorn, defending, said: "When faced with conflict and arguments he cannot properly deal with the situation."
