Anniversary cheers for railway clock tower

Proud residents are to mark the 20th anniversary of Bolton's historic clock tower moving to a new home.

Greater Manchester Passenger Transport Authority has invested more than £30,000 in a project to restore the tower and repair the clock mechanism.

The clock tower was originally built as part of Trinity Street train station in 1899 but it was dismantled when the main station building was replaced in 1987.

It was re-erected outside the new Bolton Interchange building and remains in place today.

On Friday, Councillor Margaret Clare, the Bolton spokesperson for the Passenger Transport Authority, and other local residents will celebrate the anniversary by signing a giant anniversary card with a photo of the clock tower taken in 1912 printed on the front.
