YOUNG horticulturalists have blossomed into winners in the annual Horwich in Bloom contest.

Children at St Mary's RC School have been crowned winners of the primary outdoor section by judges who were impressed with their colourful garden.

The pupils have formed an eco-group responsible for the upkeep of the school gardens.

Horwich Parish Primary School was named the runner-up and Chorley New Road Primary School took third place.

The primary indoor section was won by St Catherine's Nursery School with Chorley New Road Primary School was voted runner-up and Lord Street Primary School in third place.

Cllr Ken Denton, the Mayor of Horwich, will present the schools with trophies and prizes in September.
