FINISHING touches are being added to scarecrows as they go on display around Blackrod tomorrow.
This weekend sees the first scarecrow festival being held in the village after residents voted to give it a go.
And they remain optimistic that it will be a success, despite the recent heavy rain.
The village's three primary schools - Blackrod Methodist Primary, Blackrod Primary and Scot Lane End Primary - have all put their craft skills to the test.
Up to 60 scarecrows will be displayed in gardens and at the roadside for visitors to look at.
Churches and schools in Blackrod will also be holding open days and serving refreshments. On Sunday children are invited to take part in a competition to dress up as scarecrows.
Jean Hibbert, who has been organising the festival, said: "There is a really good feeling about this in the village, even though the weather hasn't been good recently.
"A lot of time and effort has gone into making the scarecrows and the whole community has got involved which is great."
