INDIE group Hamfatter sold more than 1,500 singles on Monday night after appearing on the first episode of a new series of hit BBC2 show Dragons' Den.
The Cambridge band, which includes Horwich trombone player Joe Scott, went in front of the dreaded panel looking for £75,000 to support the launch of their new album.
Four Dragons offered the band money, but Peter Jones was eventually successful in investing £75,000 for 30 per cent of its future royalties.
The TV coverage had an instant impact, with more than 1,500 copies of Hamfatter’s debut single, The Girl I Love, downloaded from internet sites since the show. Play.com recorded 755 downloads between 10pm and midnight from its site PlayDigital.
Helen Marquis, head of music at Play, said: “TV is the one medium that can directly relate to instant sales of downloads and such was the case with Hamfatter.
“It’s great to see independent music can still survive.”
