Second arson attack on estate in week

ARSONISTS targeted the same type of car in an estate for the second time this week.

At 1am yesterday, the attackers smashed a window on a large Volvo S60 estate car in Weymouth Drive, Hindley.

The arsonists then poured a flammable liquid into the car and torched it.

Firefighters said it was the second Volvo in the area to be attacked in the same way this week.

Another Volvo was torched on the same estate in the early hours of Monday morning.

Watch manager Pete Johnson said: “It’s unusual that we’ve had two Volvo fires in the same area, and on both occasions two youths were seen running away from the scene.

“It’s also unusual because we don’t usually get fires like that on that estate.”

Police are investigating.
