Students’ trek for animal charity

STUDENTS from Bolton Community College’s visual impairment (VI) and support for deaf student units (SUDS) put their best feet forward to raise money for veterinary charity PDSA.

A group of 35 students, aged 16 to 70, embarked on a five-mile sponsored walk from Bromley Cross in Bolton, along the Jumbles Reservoir and back to the college.

They raised £700 for the charity which provides free veterinary treatment to sick and injured animals and promotes responsible pet ownership.

The annual walk, which has been completed by VI and SUDS students for more than 10 years, included two wheelchair users and five guide dogs.

Linda Owens, curriculum leader for sensory impairment, said: “We are thrilled to be able to donate another substantial sum to such a deserving charity. The learners in the VI and SUDS Units work incredibly hard and they should be extremely pleased with what they have achieved from the walk this year.”
