Busker whips up frenzy in the name of science

THERE was a new busker in town on Saturday.

And it was not David Price’s singing which drew the crowds in, but rather the weird and wacky science experiments he conducted in Victoria Square.

His appearance in Bolton Town Centre was the latest stop on his mission to pass on his love of science to others.

The 43-year-old from Westhoughton, said: “I adore what I do. I have been a science communicator for 12 years. I do this because I want people to develop an interest in science so they can make informed decisions.

“Science affects everyday life.

“Unless we have scientists coming through the next generation this country will be in trouble.

“Natural resources are running short and we need scientists to develop cutting edge technology to ensure this country prospers.”

Mr Price used a whip to illustrate sound waves and the sound barrier, explained science in sport and staged optical illusions.

Those who gathered to watch described him as “brilliant”.

James McVey, aged 29, from Little Lever, said: “He was fun. It was really good and educational, I found out about soundwaves.”

Jennifer Byrne, aged 33, also from Little Lever, said: “I am a teacher in Clifton and my pupils would love him. He would be great to take into science lessons.”
