A MAN with hepatitis B bit a landlord on the arm during a pub brawl which erupted when he was caught selling extreme pornography DVDs.

Asylum seeker Lee Choy Soon, aged 26, was yesterday jailed for 17 months for assaulting David Jones, of The Balmoral, after he was caught with the films.

Bolton Crown Court heard how staff detained Soon in the pub in Bradshawgate, Bolton, on August 7 last year after he was found with the DVDs.

Richard Dawson, prosecuting, said Soon got into a scuffle with staff and bit Mr Jones, despite knowing he had hepatitis B.

He was bailed but arrested again on October 22 when he was caught with more fake and pornographic DVDs, which Mr Dawson said were meant to be sold in pubs across Bolton.

Judge William Morris said Soon had been caught with obscene DVDs before, but the assault on Mr Jones was the most serious offence.

Judge Morris said: “You suffer from hepatitis B, that is your misfortune. But to bite someone knowing you suffer from the illness amounted to a very reckless act.

“You caused the man who you bit considerable anxiety.”

The victim was cleared of hepatitis B in November.

Judge Morris said the offences were “so serious” that he must be jailed.

Soon, of Reddish Lane, Gorton, has been living in the UK as an illegal immigrant since 2006 after paying what the prosecution said was an “enormous” cash sum to get into the country.

At an earlier hearing, Soon pleaded guilty to assault occasioning actual bodily harm, possessing counterfeit goods, possessing an extreme pornographic image and possessing an obscene article.
