THE identity of a man who was killed when he was struck by a train remained shrouded in mystery last night.
British Transport Police (BTP) are appealing for the public’s help after a man was hit by a train at around 7pm on Monday on the line in between Daisy Hill, and Hag Fold, Atherton.
Police were called to the line near North Road, which goes over the railway line and lies directly between the two stations.
It is believed the man was white and in his 40s.
It is thought he stepped in front of the train however, detectives stressed that all lines of inquiry were open to them and that the man’s death was being treated as unexplained.
Police are now checking missing from home records and carrying out inquiries at local hostels.
