A BOLTON beauty queen is in the running to be crowned Miss England after she won a place in the contest’s grand final.
Noopur Sharma, aged 22, sailed through qualification after raising more money for charity than anyone else in the competition and getting the most public votes.
Miss Sharma, of Warwick Gardens, Daubhill, is now one of only 16 girls from across the country who could become the next Miss England.
She won her place in the final after getting the most public votes — 4,328 — at the semi-final in Leicestershire on Monday.
She said: “I couldn’t believe it when I was given a place in the semi-finals and now to go all the way thanks to the support of my family and friends, and the rest of Bolton is amazing.
“The event was incredible, all the girls were so friendly and we certainly had a day to remember. I can’t wait to do it all again in a few months time and I hope Bolton will get behind me so I can bring us home the crown”.
Miss Sharma was crowned Miss Charity Bolton and Miss Popularity Bolton when she took part in the first ever Bolton regional heat of the contest last month.
She raised £2,078 for the Variety Club children’s charity — the highest figure across the whole country.
Kristina Long, who was crowned Miss Bolton at the regional heat, was another one of the 58 girls who took part in the semi-final, but she did not progress.
She said: “I don’t feel bad at all because I still had an amazing day. All the girls from the North West had an excellent bond, I’m really happy that Noopur got through.”
Miss Sharma will go on to the Miss England final on August 31 and September 1 in Birmingham.
If she is crowned Miss England, she would go on to represent the country at Miss World in Vietnam.
