ARTIST Tracie Shaylor is making a name for herself in art circles.
The University of Bolton student was chosen as one of a handful of artists from across the country to exhibit their work at a prestigious show.
The 53-Degree North art exhibition is an annual competition for graduate artists at the New School House Gallery in York, and Ms Shaylor was placed first in the fine art category and came second overall.
Only 53 artists are chosen to exhibit their work.
Ms Shaylor, aged 43, from Brandlesholme, Bury, said: “I travelled to the awards with the intention of mingling with other artists and having a fun day out.
I seriously did not think I had a chance of winning any category, as I could only display part of my Evolution And Atrophy installation, and the standards were extremely high.”
The installation signifies men’s redundant role in society.
Robert Teed, of New School House Gallery, said: “The judges were impressed by the scale, ambition and execution of her Evolution And Atrophy piece.”
The 53-Degree North exhibition is showing at the New School House Gallery in York until Saturday, August 27.
