A PRISONER has been jailed for a further nine months after a court heard he was growing cannabis at his home and dealing in amphetamines.

Bolton Crown Court heard how police were called to Darren Hammersley’s home in Carslake Avenue, Heaton, in July last year to deal with a domestic violence incident.

But while there they found 32 cannabis plants growing in a bedroom and amphetamines in bowls and on a kitchen counter top.

David Farley, prosecuting, told the court that the because of the poor state of the plants they would only have yielded 236 grams of cannabis worth £2,024 and the amphetamine was valued at £600.

Hammersley, aged 44, pleaded guilty to the production of cannabis and possessing amphetamine with intent to supply.

The court heard that he is currently serving a 16-month prison sentence for harassment and attempting to pervert the course of justice.

Andrew Costello, defending, said Hammersley was a long term amphetamine user who only sold drugs to a small circle of people in order to fund his own habit.

But he added that since being in jail he has been drug-free.

“He is very committed to changing his ways,” he said.

Judge Charles Bloom QC sentenced Hammersley to nine months in prison to be served at the end of his current sentence.
