FIREWORKS announced the arrival of boxer Amir Khan at his lavish engagement party yesterday afternoon.

The boxer and his brideto- be, American Pakistani student Faryal Makhdoom, arrived at the star-studded bash at the Reebok Stadium’s Premier Suite in his and hers convertible Rolls Royces.

They were joined by around 1,000 friends, family and sporting celebrities, including former world champion boxer Ricky Hatton, Bolton Wanderers’ star Kevin Davies, Amir’s cousin, England cricketer Sajid Mahmood, and his former trainer Mick Jelley.

Amir gave 20-year-old Ms Makhdoom a £100,000 diamond engagement ring at the private event.

The 25-year-old, who had tweeted about the engagement earlier in the week, introduced his bride-to-be to Bolton on Friday after she jetted in from New York.

On Saturday, Amir took his fiancee to the Reebok Stadium to watch Bolton Wanderers beat Swansea City 2-1 in the FA Cup.

His younger brother Haroon Khan, aged 20, spoke to The Bolton News before the party, and said Ms Makhdoom was enjoying her trip to Bolton.

“She is not happy with the cold weather but other than that she is enjoying being here so far, he said.

“Amir’s been taking her around. He took her to the Bolton match yesterday. I think it is her luck that meant Bolton won.”

Haroon, a flyweight boxer who will represent Pakistan at the 2012 Olympics, added: “Amir is really excited.

“I think he just couldn’t wait for this because this is what he has always wanted.

“I’ve no idea when the wedding will be, maybe in a year or two years — I don’t know — but we are really looking forward to this engagement.”

Ricky Hatton said: “He had a bit of bad luck in his last fight but this will be a nice day and we can have a bit of fun.”

The theme of the event was white and red and there was a seven tier engagement cake. Amir and his fiancee, along with their parents, sat on white sofas on the stage.

Security at the stadium was tight and guests were asked to hand in phones and cameras before they went inside.
