A ROYAL Bolton Hospital physiotherapist will be giving hands on support to Olympic athletes this summer.
Michelle Angus, aged 32, will be working as the Great Britain women’s basketball team’s physiotherapist in the lead up to and during the London Olympics.
Ms Angus, who works as an advanced orthopaedic practitioner at Bolton NHS Foundation Trust, is no stranger to sporting injuries after she was forced to end her career as a women’s rugby player for the North of England after being stuck down by a ligament injury.
She decided to offer her skills as a physio after being injured.
She has previously worked with the England netball team, with the England women’s rugby team when they twice won the grand slam, along with tennis players, cyclists, badminton players and boxers.
She carries out the work by juggling her free time with her full time work for the NHS.
Ms Angus’ work will start in May and will last until August.
One of the highlights will be when the men’s and women’s teams clash with the US teams in July at the Manchester Arena.
She said: “The game is much faster than I realised. The players tend to get knee and shoulder injuries and, because they are tall, they often have back problems.
“We’re not expected to win the gold medal. But we have true team spirit and British grit, so you never know.”
