Lib Dems lose seats on a good night for Labour
12:34am Friday 4th May 2012 in Your Town
Lib Dem leader Roger Hayes came close to losing his seat, winning Smithills by the slimmest of margins.
He polled 1,588 votes to Labour's 1,542.
It was a welcome victory for the Lib Dems on an otherwise terrible night for the beleaguered party.
Meanwhile, Sean Harkin, the son of former veteran Labour councillor Guy, has won Westhoughton North & Chew Moor for the party.
Labour has had a good night so far taking Breightmet as well as Horwich and Blackrod.
Labour leader Cllr Cliff Morris has retained his Halliwell seat with a massive majority.
But it has been a bad night for the Lib Dems who face obliteration within the council make-up.
The Lib Dems have almost certainly suffered for party leader Nick Clegg's decision to go into a Coalition government with the Tories.
They have been beaten, in some seats, by the far right BNP and the Green Party, and have polled paltry figures in comparison with the Conservatives and Labour.
The largest casualty has been Cllr David Wilkinson who lost his seat to Labour.
The collapse of the Libs Dems is even more astonishing given they were the controlling party in 2004.

More sleazy backroom deals and nepotism, more property development and vague offers of cash injection for the community, more supermarkets, more job cuts, more potholes, less library’s, more bus station foul ups and just wait till the One way round town road system surfaces again and road tolls are introduced!
Do not moan citizens of Bolton you blindly voted like sheep for an idea called the labour party, one that has been dead and buried for years.

People were given the opportunity to vote and viewing the way that the government are gleefully and systematically destroying the lives of working people and the vulnerable in this country, the majority of those that took part, voted Labour. That's democracy for you. I'm willing to bet that most of the belly achers didn't even vote.
A case of the empty vessels making the most noise again.

Bet the BEN is delighted with the results, after all their hard work promoting the socialists.

1. Tories should enter secret negotiations with UKIP for an electoral pact in 2015.
2. Agreement should be reached by Tories and UKIP on a list of demands for renegotiation of the EU treaties, with a referendum on continued UK membership if they're not met by 2020.
3. All further green legislation should be put on ice and it should be made clear that repeal of the Climate Change Act will form part of the Tory manifesto in 2015.
4. Shale gas production must be authorised, as it offers massive economic opportunities.
5. All industrial relations and labour legislation which hampers UK business must be ditched or heavily amended.
6. Public sector downsizing and pension reform must be pushed forward.

Many Tory and Lib Dem voters are very unhappy about being in bed with each other and did not vote to show a form of protest a few floaters went with Labour.
Wow, there's some serious sour grapes here.

This has given the scoundrels in the Kremlin more rope to hang us all with and they will. I do not vote on party lines for a local councillor, merely for the one who will deliver the best service for my family’s needs a pity others do not.
I do not trust millionaire “working class” socialists with a huge appetite to constantly develop everything whilst slashing services and amenities, for example I wonder what the people of Bolton would have done given the choice of £9 million they spent on the Bolton One or keeping a few libraries and OAP facilities going?

Good National Asylum Support Service (NASS) relocation site though. Apparently none in the Southeast towns. No wonder council tax is rising next year.
