Splashing time had by all at new-look pool

YOUNGSTERS had a splashing time at the opening of Horwich Leisure Centre’s refurbished pool.

A family fun day was held at the pool in Victoria Road to celebrate the £438,000 facelift while dignitaries conducted a more formal opening ceremony.

Scores of children enjoyed playing on the inflatables while the Mayor of Bolton, Cllr Norman Critchley, marked the investment by unveiling a plaque.

Bolton Council, Bolton Community Trust and the Government funded the refurbishments, which have taken four months to complete.

The majority of the work has been to the ceiling and pool tank. Noticeable improvements include a revamped balcony area, a new group changing area and a new-look socialising area with improved views of the pool.

Local councillor, Barbara Ronson, said: “I hope more people are now encouraged to use the pool.

“There has been a tremendous improvement.

“It’s important to invest in facilities like this for people’s fitness particularly for young people.”

And she revealed children in Horwich are to have money put on their “smart cards” from the local area forum board, which they can spend at the leisure centre.

“We want the pool to be very busy with all ages using the pool,” said Cllr Ronson.
