Runners needed to boost nurses appeal

SOME budding charity runners are feeling disappointed after failing to secure places for the Great Manchester Run — but it’s Marie Curie to the rescue.

Entry to the event has now closed and those who applied know if they have a spot or not for Sunday, May 16.

Anyone who did not get a place, or missed out on signing up, is being urged to contact Marie Curie Cancer Care and run in aid of the Bolton campaign.

And runners who will be doing the event but do not have a charity in mind are being encouraged to support the charity.

It has limited places available but hopes to have 50 runners, raising at least £10,000 towards the £200,000 target.

The Marie Curie Nurses Appeal aims to reach the total by the end of June, to fund more free home nursing care for local terminally ill people.

Hannah Taylor, community fundraiser, said: “Getting a place is notoriously difficult. Online places are quickly snapped up and many runners have not been able to secure one, but we have a very limited number of these special places. They are open to anyone who is willing to take on the challenge and commit to raising £214 for the Bolton Nurse Appeal.

“If you failed to get a place online you can still apply for a guaranteed place with us. If you were successful in securing your own place we’d be delighted to welcome you to our Daffodil team.”

Get in touch with Marie Curie as soon as possible if you’re interested. Places will be given out on a first come first served basis.

Anyone joining the team will get a free Nike running vest, designed for the charity, 10 per cent off Nike running gear, fundraising support and the backing of a cheering squad on the day itself.

To apply to become a member of the Daffodil team, contact 0161 255 2809 or 07798 638127.
