TELEVISION newsreader John Suchet will meet people from Bolton affected by dementia next week.
Mr Suchet will be at the Britannia Hotel, Manchester, on Friday, September 10, to celebrate 10 years of the Admiral Nurses, who support dementia sufferers and their families.
Mr Suchet’s wife, Bonnie, aged 67, has the condition and he spoke publicly about it for the first time last year.
He has written a moving book about how it has affected them and will sign copies of My Bonnie: How Dementia Stole The Love Of My Life, at the event.
Members of Bolton Young Onset Group Associates, which is for younger people with dementia and their carers, have been invited and Mr Suchet will meet them.
Jim Swift, from the group, has been friends with Mr Suchet for several years, after the charity For Dementia put them in touch.
They are supporting each other as both their wives have dementia.
Former teacher Jan Swift, aged 66, was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s in 2002.
Mr Swift, aged 64, of Harwood, said: “I’m pleased we’ll get the chance to meet up with John. We need to raise awareness of dementia and keep it at the forefront, as we need to publicise what we are doing in Bolton.”
From next month, the Bolton group will meet at Thicketford House, in Thicketford Road, Tonge Moor, on the fourth Thursday of the month, from 1pm to 3pm.
