Drink-drive manager went to alarm call-out

A BURGER chain manager — who was caught more than three times over the drink-drive limit after answering a Christmas Day alarm call to a restaurant — has been banned from driving and will lose his job as a result.

Sean Morris, who is a manager for McDonald’s, was stopped by police in the early hours of Christmas Day because they saw his car being driven slowly.

Bolton Magistrates’ Court heard he appeared to swerve in Beaumont Road, Ladybridge.

Nicola Ormerod, prosecuting, told how Morris co-operated when officers stopped his Renault Clio near the Britannia Hotel and he gave a breath sample, which was 115mg of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath. The legal limit is 35.

Adam Whittaker, defending, said Morris had worked as a manager for McDonald’s for 18 months and on Christmas Eve he had attended a family party.

He was not on call and went to bed just before midnight, but in the early hours of the morning, he received a call saying the alarm was going off at one of the restaurants and no one else was available to deal with it.

“He made a mistake because he had had a break from drinking for three to four fours and thought he would be all right to drive,” said Mr Whittaker.

He added that, as a result of losing his driving licence, Morris, aged 28, of Thornbank, Deane, would lose his job as frequent travel was a requirement.

Morris pleaded guilty to drinkdriving.

Magistrates ordered him to do 60 hours unpaid work, banned him from driving for two years and ordered him to pay £85 prosecution costs
