BOLTON Wanderers captain Kevin Davies was beaming with pride at his charity’s latest success — but now wants more local causes to step forward to receive financial help.

KiDs of Bolton, the charity set up by the striker and his wife, Emma, just over a year ago, has donated £20,000 to Bolton Gymnastics Club.

It has secured the club’s immediate future and transformed their new premises in Darcy Lever.

After moving away from their previous base at Withins Leisure Centre, the club has been operating out of a clubhouse at New house Farm, close to Leverhulme Park.

It is now decked out in new gym equipment, including a fully sprung floor.

That has also led to the club's best ever set of results at a recent national competition, where 12-yearold Raechel Jackson became the first gymnast to be selected to represent the club at the North West Grade Finals for Grade 10.

Davies hopes their example will encourage more local causes to ask for assistance, with about £100,000 currently in the pot thanks to some high profile fundraisers staged over the past 12 months.

He said: “The whole reason we are doing it is to help people like this. We have helped a few individuals, a couple of teams with kits, but nothing of this size, so to see it working is fantastic.

“I’ve seen first hand how hard the girls and the coaches work here, and it's great to see they are starting to get rewards.”

Head coach Sandra Humphreys described the help received by the club as “a godsend”.

She added: “Before we had gymnasts who got to a certain level but had to move to clubs outside of Bolton because we couldn’t give them enough time.

We’ve now got the right setup to enable them to compete at the same level as other clubs.

“I hope by seeing what KiDs of Bolton have done for us a few more can benefit like we have.”

KiDs of Bolton would like to hear from community groups or clubs benefiting under-18s or individuals who could require financial assistance.
