A PENSIONER who fell foul of an internet scam is warning people to be wary of online offers.
The 64-year-old, from Horwich, who wants to remain anonymous, signed up for a sample of free cream after an advertisement popped up on her screen while she was browsing the internet.
She entered her card details after being told there would be a cost of £2.95 for it to be delivered.
But she later received a call from Tesco, with whom she has a Visa card, to inform her she had actually been charged just under £80.
The sample of Revita Derm radiance cream arrived but she was horrified to be told she had fallen foul of a scam by the fraud squad at Tesco.
She said: “It was a free trial but I got the call from Tesco on Friday. It has obviously been going on for months. The charge of £79 on my card must have flashed up with Tesco and they put a hold on it and checked with me. I would advise people not to sign up for samples online even if you are told you are just paying for packing.
“Even if I have to pay £80 I have been let off lightly.”
