Fabrice to run up the cash for charity

A FITNESS fanatic is to run 100 miles to continue a charitable legacy started by his late grandfather.

But the Thames Path 100 challenge — which involves running from Richmond in South West London to the centre of Oxford — is just the first of many challenges 27-year-old Fabrice Klein is planning to undertake.

The business consultant at Vertex in Bolton, aims to raise a minimum of £2,500 for Cancer Research.

He has chosen the cause as his grandfather, Donald Hydon, used to donate £2,500 to the charity each year after surviving skin cancer in the 1960s. Mr Hydon, who lived in Kent, died aged 78, following a heart attack in November and now his grandson, of Littlebrook Close, Tonge Moor, wants to continue to raise the money each year.

He said: “I think my grandad would be really proud of what I am doing.

“I will start doing something every year to raise the money. I will have to better what I have done the previous year.”

He plans to take part in two of the world’s toughest foot races — the Bad Water Marathon in America and the Des Sables in Morocco, which involves racing for five days in the sand dunes.

Mr Klein is no stranger to gruelling challenges after notching up 14 marathons, including the London Marathon, and two Ironman competitions, including Bolton’s Ironman — all within two years.

Mr Klein has been clocking up between 80 and 100 miles a week in preparation for the ultra marathon, which will take 20 hours to complete on Saturday, March 3. He said: “I have started training already. I have got another three weeks work of hard training. At the moment I am running up to 100 miles a week and I go to the gym.

“It is going to be hard, the hardest thing I have ever done.”
