BEAUTY treatments, hand-crafted cards and potted plants are just some of the goods budding entrepreneurs will be trading in Bolton’s pop-up market.

The town centre will be buzzing with the sound of market traders for the next week as Bolton celebrates the first national Love Your Local Market fortnight campaign.

The fortnight of special market activity starts with the inaugural National Market Day tomorrow.

Apprentice semi-finalist and market trader Adam Corbally, and celebrity chef Simon Rimmer will be in town to launch celebrations.

Adam’s talks are at 10am, noon and 2pm in the reception room on the second floor of Bolton Town Hall. Places are free, but are on a first come, first served basis.

Simon Rimmer, from Channel 4’s Sunday Brunch, will cook a range of dishes in the kitchen in Bolton Market, at 10.30am and 2.30pm, using produce bought fresh from the market. He will also do a cookery demonstration in a marquee in Deansgate at 12.30pm.

Other activities on Saturday include a health fair from 9am to 1.30pm in the marquee, and a “trade for a tenner” pop-up market in Deansgate.

Those taking part in the pop-up event include new business All You Knead artisan bread bakers.

Students from Bolton College will sell plants, and offer beauty treatments, and school pupils will sell handmade cards.

On Sunday, the monthly local produce market will take place at Queens Park, between 10am and 2pm.

The pop-up market will be back in Deansgate from June 25 to June 29. On June 30 new traders will be selling their wares at Farnworth Market. On July 7 three new traders will set up shop for the day at Westhoughton Market.

Bolton is home to Britain’s Best Food Market, Bolton Market, an award won in the BBC Food and Farming Awards 2011.

Bolton Council’s cabinet member for community services, Cllr Akhtar Zaman, said: “Markets play a key role in the vitality of the town centre and that’s why we’re investing £4.5 million in Bolton Market.

“Holding the pop-up market gives people the chance to trade and they are a great way for entrepreneurs to get experience in a retail environment.”
