THE campaign to save a landmark pub stepped up a gear when protesters staged a demonstration outside the offices of the agents acting on behalf of the owners.
Members of The Greenwood Action Group gathered outside planning experts Sedgwick Associates, in Spa Road, Bolton.
They waved placards calling for the pub to be re-opened and saved — and warned there will be further protests outside other businesses involved in plans to demolish The Greenwood Arms in Chorley New Road, Horwich.
Roy Greenhalgh, chairman of Claypool Residents Association, said: “This company has put together a scheme to demolish a fine Victorian building which is also the centre of a local community.”
The Greenwood Arms is thought to date back to 1899. The owners, who remain anonymous, have said the pub is not viable despite investment.
No one at Sedgwick Associates was available for comment.
Another demonstration is planned for Sunday at the pub.
Developer SRH Property Ltd wants to knock down the pub and build 12 homes and a convenience store.
