Police hunt masked Farnworth shop raiders
The two raiders caught on CCTV
The two raiders caught on CCTV

TWO masked men, armed with a knife, are shown here in the middle of an attempted robbery in a CCTV picture released by police.

The two raiders covered their faces and struck at the One-Stop Convenience Store in Minerva Road, Farnworth, at around 7.30am last Monday.

One of them was wielding a large kitchen knife with a wooden handle.

The men burst into the store as manager, Susan Walker, was in the back office completing paper work and a shop assistant was stacking shelves.

When Mrs Walker saw the masked men she immediately slammed her office door, locking them out, and pressed the panic alarm to alert the police.

The men went behind the counter but fled empty-handed after they realised the alarm had been raised.

The female shop assistant walked over to the counter shortly afterwards without having realised what had just happened.

One of the raiders was white, 5ft 9ins tall, of medium build, and was wearing a light green and light brown camouflage style army jacket.

The hood was up on the jacket which concealed his hair and face. He was wearing a black woollen balaclava which covered the lower part of his face and nose.

He had black gloves and dark trousers and was carrying a large silver bladed knife which had a wooden handle.

The second male was also white. He was of medium build, wearing a white woollen hat, and dark green thick coat with a large pocket on the front.

His face was also concealed up to his eyes by the collar of a thick jumper he was wearing under his coat.

He was also wearing black gloves and dark trousers.

PC Mike Jennings said: "I would appeal to anybody who thinks they recognise these men, or who has any information at all about this incident, to get in touch with the police as soon as possible."

Anyone with information is asked to call police on 0161 856 5824 or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 080 555 111.
