VISITORS going down to Highfield School were sure of a big surprise — bears of all shapes and sizes were gathered for the teddy bears’ picnic.

Bears of all different colours and shapes, including Henry Bear, could be spotted in the woodland at the primary school in Farnworth as youngsters — and their bears — celebrated the great outdoors.

It was part of the school's Highfield Earth project.

It has seen young adventurers and explorers create eco-torches and learn about some advanced electronics skills, recycling, creating bug hotels and bird boxes for a woodland area near their school.

To celebrate the wonder of nature, Emma Walker, the school's forest schools co-ordinator, organised the event for children and their teddy bears with a picnic.

The Forest School’s scheme is designed to increase children’s understanding of the outdoors and the importance of woodlands and forests.
