STRAIGHT A student Peter Roberts was congratulated by a former national sports captain — who also happened to be his brother.

James Roberts, the former captain of England’s cerebral palsy development squad, was on hand to watch Peter, aged 16, open his results at Bolton School on Thursday.

Peter gained 10 A*s and an A in his GCSEs and after his A-levels hopes to follow James, aged 20, and his eldest brother Jack, aged 23, who is a former head boy at the school, in studying medicine.

Peter said: “I am very pleased with my results, I wasn’t expecting to get all As.

“I am going on to the sixth form to study maths, biology, chemistry and Latin.”

James, who is at Liverpool University and who captained the team while he studied for his A-levels in 2012, said: “He has done brilliantly.”

Peter’s success was reflected throughout all schools in Bolton, with many individuals posting outstanding performance.

The borough’s average of almost 60 per cent of children gaining five or more A* to C including English and maths was in line in last year.

Some schools saw significant improvements while others saw a dip in their results Philip Britton, head of Bolton School boys’ division, said he was pleased about the number of A* grades achieved by the cohort, where 97.9 per cent gained five or more good grades including English and maths.

He said: “Results day is also a chance to reflect on all the boys have achieved more widely in school during their time with us and moved from enthusiastic young boys to young men.”
