YOUNGSTERS became chefs for the day after enrolling at a special academy.

The Junior Chefs Academy was set up at Chorley New Road Primary School, Horwich, to introduce children to the delights of making their own food and healthy eating in a fun and creative way.

The event helped to launch the school’s new cooking programme for all children at the school and not just those in key stage two, where it is now a national curriculum requirement.

Children from years two to six took part in the sessions, during which they made a healthy fruit crunch.

Headteacher Linda Burrows said: “I have held the Junior Chefs Academy in other schools I have worked at and the children love it.

“They do different sessions and we held the multi-cultural cooking class for our children.

“It was very professional. The children had their own chef hats and they had to say ‘yes chef’.”
