YOUNGSTERS at Bowness Primary School got their creative juices flowing when they were inspired by children's poet Ian Bland.

Mr Bland visited the school in Church Street, Little Lever, to share his poetry and act it out with the youngsters.

He performed readings of his poetry in assembly and helped youngsters of all ages write their own poems based on his works.

Katy Roberts, a Year Five and Six class teacher and English subject lead at the school, said: "It was really exciting for the children to get involved in the event, because they are really interested in reading, writing and poetry.

"Since Ian's visit, the children have been really keen to explore different poets - he's really captured their imagination.

"Ian was really animated and and the children particularly enjoyed the drama aspect of his visit."

The children will perform the poetry they produced in front of parents in the school assembly hall on Tuesday December 2.
