FIRWOOD School pupils are being supported by the children's charity MedEquip4Kids to improve their mobility by raising funds for a specialist walking frame.

The frame will allow students with severe physical disabilities to gain control of their movement for the first time.

MedEquip4Kids has already provided the Stitch-Mi-Lane school with three frames and they are now fundraising for a fourth which can be used by older students who are too big for the smaller models.

The charity relies heavily on the North West community — as well as further afield — to fund these projects and a big part of this are their fundraising events.

As 2015 marks the charity's 30th birthday ,part of the celebrations will involve the fundraising team organising a 30 Peaks Challenge across the Lake District, taking in a total of 30 peaks over 35 miles.

Events fundraiser Lily Axworthy said: "This is a unique trek that challenges our supporters to conquer some of the toughest terrain in the UK.

"It is also a great chance for those people who want to take part in a challenge event but who are often put off because of the big price tags associated with international events.

"This trek is perfectly suited to these people as we've tried to keep the costs as low as possible and most people won't even need to take time off work.

"We are looking for teams to sign up for this challenge and we hope that people from Bolton and beyond will help us achieve something really special in 2015 for MedEquip4Kids' 30th birthday.

"You don't need to be super fit to take part in the challenge and there is plenty of time to train for hill walking between now and June 2015 so there is no excuse not to sign up."

The cost of the trek is £160 for a team of four and then MedEquip4Kids would like each team to raise at least £1,600.

The charity is also inviting companies and organisations to do their bit by sponsoring one of the peaks at £1 per metre above sea level.

MedEquip4Kids aims to improve healthcare for children and babies across the north of England by providing specialist paediatric equipment for hospitals and community health teams.

The charity was founded in 1985 and, to date, has raised more than £20 million.
