VIKINGS landed in Farnworth as Highfield Primary School pupils went thousands of years back in time.

The youngsters dressed up as Vikings and made their own Nordic artefacts, artwork, coins and a lifeboat.

They were also educated about Viking weaponry such as axes and spears.

Susan Weller, a year five teacher at Highfield Primary School, said: "This event really brought learning to life and the children absolutely loved it they haven't stopped talking about it.

"It's incredibely important to us that our pupils learn in an active way, as well as passively."

Taking part in the fun were Jasmine Riley, Jake Thornley and Aaron Speak, all aged nine.
