UNIVERSITY of Bolton graduate Refat Yasmeen will be looking forward to this Sunday's glittering BAFTA ceremony.

For the media writing and production graduate was involved with the BAFTA nominated short film Three Brothers, produced by Bureau Film Company, written and directed by Aleem Khan.

The film centres around three Pakistani brothers growing up in modern Britain and how they cope following their mother’s unexpected death.

She is Creative Head and Script Editor at Spidervision Productions, founded in 2012, and manager of Firstlight Project CIC, both based in Rochdale.

After graduating from the University of Bolton in 2011, she returned to India to work in Bollywood for two years. Ms Yasmeen said: "The world has changed and stories have changed.

"I’m interested in real people, especially those who come to Britain from other countries.

"I focus on ethnic minorities and how their culture and religion impact their lives outside of their home countries.

" It hasn’t been done in great detail before and we’ve only just touched on the issue.’"

She added: "The Media Writing and Production course at the University of Bolton was amazing in terms of classes as well as networking opportunities. For example it’s through them I met writer and producer Paul Abbott (Shameless, State of Play), writer and director Justin MacGregor, and people at the BBC."

The winners of the BAFTA award will be announced at a ceremony at the Royal Opera House in London on Sunday (8 February.)

University of Bolton graduate Lisa McMahon won with Trawlermen: Pick of the Catch in 2008.
