GRAPHIC design students have helped to give Bolton Deaf Society a re-brand.

As part of their degree, students from the University of Bolton teamed up with the society to give members' town centre base, in Bark Street, a fresh look.

The 14 students designed their work around a timeline of events which shows how the society has developed over the years.

Lisa Jackson, systems co-ordinator for Trojan Utilities, which supported the project, said: "We had links with Bolton Deaf Society before this project because as a company one of our foundations is giving back to the community.

"We knew that the Deaf Society needed a brighten up so came up with the idea of a having a time line which showed how it has developed over the years.

"We wanted to get our idea designed and found out that the university was looking to do another live project with their students and wanted to help."

Student Mahmoud Benelhag, aged 20, who took part in the project said: "Obviously because of being deaf myself I want a good future for the deaf society and hopefully my work will be seen by people and mean the younger generation will want to come back not just the older generation that come in at the moment."

Students designed a range of logos for the centre and the society's merchandise — as well as art work to decorate the building.

The winner and runners-up will have their work professionally produced.

Bolton Deaf Society administrator Alison Parker said: "Obviously we want to publicise that the centre is still open for members of the deaf community and those who are hard of hearing.

"Anything that improves the building is great for us and the community.

"We are hoping now that the winner and runners up will work together to put the timeline into fruition."

Graphic design student Sean Regan, aged 27, from Urmston, was announced as the winner and presented with a Trojan Utilities Community Achievement trophy and also £75 in iTunes vouchers.

Candy Sinclair Ford, aged 19, from Liverpool came second and Imran Hussian, aged 19, from Liverpool came third.
