YOUNG Einsteins enjoyed a show with a difference.

For Dr Frank Mair from The University of Manchester's School of Chemistry visited Rivington and Blackrod High School to stage the Flash Bang Show demonstrating how exciting chemical science can be to year eight students.

The show demonstrates rapid colour changes, clock reactions, explosions, flame colours, indoor fireworks, hydrogen rockets, starting fires with water, burning things in CO2, and much more. The show was funded by Horwich Rotary Club.

Student Daniel Clayson said: "The bangs made me jump and I found the show very exciting especially when Dr Mair fired the rockets."

Jessica Gilmore, also in year eight, added: "The show was really interesting. We all enjoyed every minute of it.

Nava Velupillai, head of science at the Horwich school, said: “It has been a wonderful chance for students to see dramatic scientific demonstrations that we are unable to show in classrooms, and they enjoyed the opportunity to see science in a broader context. Students found the show very exciting and exhilarating.”
